Damsel in Distress-
The word damsel comes from the french word demoisele meaning a young woman or girl. A damsel in distress is usually a young or innocent girl who is held captive against her will and depends on someone to save her.


ANDROMEDA
Andromeda was the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia of Ethiopia. Her mother boasted of her daughter's beauty and said it was greater than the beauty of the Andromeda-Perseus.jpgsea nymphs', the daughters of Poseidon. This angered Poseidon who sent a sea monster to the country of Ethiopia. Ammon, the oracle, declared that only the sacrifice of Andromeda would save Ethiopia from flood and plague. Andromeda was chained to a rock in the sea helplessly waiting for the sea monster to kill her . She was saved by the hero Perseus, who turned the monster into stone with the head of Medusa and claimed Andromeda in marriage. Thei wedding dinner was interupted by the arrival of Phineus to whome Andromeda had been promised in marriage. Perseus and Phineus battled and Perseus again used the Medusa head to turn Phineus and his soldiers to stone.

RAPUNZEL
A man and woman wanted a child but could not recieve one. E
ventually she was with child. One day, she was looking out her window that had a view of a garden and she saw a beautiful bed of rapunzel. The longed for the rapunzel and told her husband that if she couldn't have so she would die. The husband loved her dearly and went to get some rapunzel at whatever cost to make his wife happy. He soon went to the garden and picked a handful and made it into a salad for his wife. The next day she wanted it again dso he walked to the garden but a fairy was standing in his way. She scolded him for entering his garden and he told her about his wife's pregnancy. The fairy told the man that he could have as much rapurapunzel_1.jpgnzel as he wanted if she could have the child his wife was carrying. The man foolishly agreed and when his wife gave birth the fairy appeared and named the girl Rapunzel and when she turned 12 locked her in a tower with no way of escaping. When the fairy wanted her she would have Rapunzel let down her long hair and climb up to her. Soon after she feell in love with a prince who would sing to her and climb up her long hair to come see her. The witch soon figured out what was happening and cut off her hair and left her in the forest. The prince tried to climb up Rapunzel's hair but it was the witch in the tower and she pushed him off and he fell and throns pierced his eyes and he went blind. He wondered through the forest living on nothing but grass and roots and years later he heard Rapunzel's voice and found her living with her children. She saw him and immideatly threw her arms around him and two of her tears fell into his eyes and he could see.














Titanic
James Cameron's 1997 classic, Titanic features an archetypal damsel in distress Rose, who knows her life will just include going to boring parties and talking to shallow people. She was in an unhappy engagement and was not satisfied with her life so she attempted suicide. Jack, an artist staying in a third class cabin on the boat, saw her on the ledge of the boat about to jump and pulled her up to the deck.
